Booze makes people DUMB

in my bar, we have different terms for different days of the week...these terms are based on the way WE feel and also on the way people act when then come in an what they order to drink, etc.

For example...Thursdays are "sexual harassment Thursdays" because it's the start of everyone (ok well MOST everyone's) weekend and we're all feeling a little frisky haha. Monday night is Movie Night cause nobody comes out so we may as well have stayed home and watched a movie etc etc.

In keeping with this trend, there are Friday nights and Saturday nights, which are typically known in the industry as "Amateur Night". This meaning that the people who generally go out on Fridays and Saturdays don't know how to order in bars appropriately, haven't been drinking for very long or pretty much don't know what the F they're doing.

Here's a perfect example of one of said evenings...On a particular Friday night, i'm preparing to make some of the most complicated mixed drinks that taste like cotton candy and make you feel like your head got sawed in half by a handsaw and then someone rubbed lemon juice in it...*hangover central* and all the girls behind the bar with me are basically gearing up for the onslaught of business that is a typical friday night between 10pm and 1am.

WHEN of course...a gaggle of girls aging from 19-23 all come in screaming and hollering saying things like "OHMIGOSH YES I WANNA GO ON A PARTY BUS" and such annoying things as this, these are called "woohoo" girls because they scream "Woohoo" for almost anything...which makes for an obnoxious evening for those of us working and not drinking.

The girls saunter up to the bar, stripper heels and skin tight dresses for everyone and attempt to order like...176 Long Island Iced Teas (ughhh) and so of course, I ask to see everyone's ID before i start giving people legal liquid roofies...every girl produces an ID that is legitimate except for the two at the very back who have been whispering to each other ever since I carded the first girl...I finally holler back at them "ladies I need an ID if you wanna stay" and the braver of the two starts to get offended that i would ask for her ID: "what do you mean i need my ID? I've been here a hundred times and you always serve me and I can't believe you don't remember me! I lost my ID downtown at *pausepause* uhhh....ummm....a bar! (yeah right) and i don't have it with me."

this irritates me to absolutely no end...ive NEVER seen this girl before and there's no way she's a day over 19 so i tell her that she's welcome to stay until 10pm (thats when we kick minors out of the bar) but that she can have a tea soda or water at the bar until then. she haughtily agrees and the other girls who are of age have their drinks and woohoo all over the place. underage girl finally gets fed up and suggests that the girls get a table and a server so that they don't have to deal with me and i suppose are hoping not to get carded by the servers. I politely ask them to close their tab and they migrate to a table.

the server greets them and just like me, asks to see their IDs, much to underage girl's chagrin. she pouts for a little while longer while all of her friends who are of legal age take shot after shot after shot. management agrees to allow the underage girl to stay since we all know she's underage and she is in plain sight of both the bar and management so we can keep an eye on her. the girls continue to drink and scream and dance around (totally bizarre for a bar like ours).

1230am rolls around and leader-girl (i'm supposing it was a birthday celebration?) has mysteriously disappeared...i think nothing of it and go about my business. i take a quick bathroom break and recognize some stripper heels under the stall of the bathroom...birthday girl and underage girl are in the same stall while birthday girl vomits her guts out and underage girl bitches about not being served.

So...to sum up this long ass rant...booze makes people DUMB and it makes underage people CRAZY AND ANNOYING.

Such is my life at the bar *sigh*

oy vey

i'm having a hard time remembering to post on this damn thing!

So this weekend at work was pretty uneventful again...since the incident a few weeks back, work has been pretty boring. everyone's behaving themselves and there hasn't been much drama to really speak of.

HOWEVER when i walked into the bar on friday afternoon and the bar STANK! like legitimately smelled so strange...like a mildew smell that i hadn't experienced there before soooo lucky for all of us behind the bar, we got to take EVERY SINGLE bottle of beer out from the cooler (something like 1000 bottles, i'm sure) and pull the coolers out from where they are and mop, sanitize and dry the floor because the drain was clogged behind the coolers...which was perhaps the biggest hassle of all time ever....it took almost 3 hours to do all of it....

that's the most eventful thing that's happened to me this weekend...pretty dull...

ughh

THIS WEEKEND was the longest weekend everrrr.

my weekend started off with a 7 hour shift on friday night. which wasn't too bad. it was busy enough to keep me occupied but slow enough to where we all had a great time still so it was good! AND i didn't have to close so i got off early which was nice (for once)

so because of the UT game on saturday, the bar opened early so we all had to be in at 9 am (holy shit that's super early after working late the night before) we had 4 bartenders in at that time which was a little excessive considering the game didn't start until 11 but basically it meant that we all got to hang around and crack jokes till it got busy...which it did. we were all running around like crazy for the entire game which was fun...until we all remembered that we were ALL double shifts...and that there was a UFC fight that night. now if you don't know, UFC fights are typically really busy and full of giant douches who are rude, obnoxious and don't tip (horrible). All of us got an hour long break which we took in shifts and then all came back on to work the fight.

the fight wasn't as busy as we expected because of the rain and the game earlier in the day etc so it wasn't a terrible night. i finally got off of work at 1am (9a-5p and then 6p-1a...ridiculously long day) and my co-workers and i are all drinking and hanging out having good time blowing off steam which was so much fun and we never get to do that since we all work so much.

After leaving the bar after last call, i get a call from a bartender at a different location calls me...wasted...asking for a ride...so of COURSE i have to go and pick him up at 230 in the morning after having worked for 15+ hours and take him to his house which is NOT close...grrr! i begrudgingly drive to the DT location of our store and find him in the parking lot and put him in the car. during the car ride, he tells me about how much he loves pancakes, how he's sad a server at his store is leaving, how he thinks his car is badass and how he walked around in the rain for 2 hours...uhm..confuse me? haha so funny.

i finally get home and in bed at 4am only to turn around and wake back up at 10am and get dressed for my shift at noon that day for NFL sunday. BLEH!

what a freaking long weekend!

Uneventful

The past few shifts i've worked have been largely uneventful. Just a typical weekend of serving beer to morons who never know what they want.

The one thing about bar tending/waiting tables that makes it always interesting and fun is the fact that you never know who you're going to meet or the kinds of people you'll end up interacting with. A typical, boring friday night shift can turn out to be the shift where you meet a politician, your future husband/wife, your future best friend or the worst person on earth.

the unpredictability of this job is what makes it worth it.
